Install the Wireless Card in your PC or Laptop according to the specifications given by the Manufacturer.
The first thing to do is to share your Internet Connection in your Windows XP machine. This point is not mandatory but this is almost 99 % of the time the main reason why you got your Toshiba e740. So, to do that you have to go to your desktop and do a right click on top of the Icon called My Network Places and select Properties.
Once there, do a right click on your Internet Connection Icon and select Properties.
Then go to Advanced. Select the last 3 check boxes under Internet Connection Sharing. Then hit OK. This action will assign a new IP address into the TCP/IP protocol, usually 192.168.0.1 and the subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Lets go and check it. Do right click in your Wireless card icon.
Select Properties.
Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and Click on Properties.
If you don't have the these IP address and Subnet mask, assign these or any one you prefer, but take a note of these because we will need them in the future.
Click Ok and once in the Wireless Network Connection Properties window go to Wireless Network page.
And press the button Advance located under the Preferred networks.
Select Computer-to-computer (ad hoc) networks only and uncheck Automatically connect to non-preferred networks. Click Close after that. Once you are back in Wireless Network, press in Add preferred network.
Name your network in this example I named it WHOME leave the rest of the options in the same way that shows the above screen shot and click OK.
Now go back to General page. And click Configure under Connecting Using field. Once you see the new windows go to Advanced.
There select the Property: Channel and select the Value=10. After that hit ok and we are done with the PC.
Turn on you Toshiba e740 and be sure that the wireless card switch located at the bottom right site of your PPC is on.
Go to Start\Settings\Connections
Click on Network Adapters.
Click on IEEE 802.11b WLAN Adapter, and then click on Properties.
Select the second option Use specific IP address and in the field IP address type any one with this configuration: 192.168.0.x in this example I used 192.168.0.10, the Subnet mask should be the same used in your PC, in this case 255.255.255.0, the Default gateway is the IP address of your PC: 198.168.0.1
Then go to Name Server
This is the most important part to gain access to your Internet Connection. The DNS should be equal to the IP address of your Wireless Card in your PC: 192.168.0.1, the WINS field also should be equal to that IP. Hit OK.
Go back to Start\Settings\System
And do click on Wireless LAN Utility.
Go to Scan. And there you should see already the connection id: WHOME. Do double click on top of it, this will log you on this connection.
Then go to Config.
Be sure that the screen look like the above. The last thing to do is to change in the Start\Setting\Connections\Connections all to Work Settings, Work Settings and Work. The Proxy Settings of the Work Settings should look like the this:
The last recommended step is to add your PC name and IP address in the list of hosts using Pocket Host (download) in my case it was:
Host Name: TP600
IP Address: 192.168.0.1
The Host Name can be found if you open AS in your PPC and go to Options\PC - It's the one listed under Include PC when synchr. remotely.
Note: You can check your connection from your PPC by using this utility vxUtil
And That's all folks! Ready to enjoy your Wireless connection. ;)
